Niagara Cricket: Sep 11, 2006 – Niagara Cricket Club won the semi finals in the Playoffs last Saturday, being held at Ridley College Cricket Ground. A win over Hamilton now has provided a birth in the finals for St. Catharines, to be held this weekend.

In the semi final match, a low scoring batting performance by Hamilton was observed. After winning the toss, Niagara Cricket Club put Hamilton to bat first. The bowling attack of Humayun Ikram removed the opening batsman of Hamilton in the first 3 overs. Later, Nasir Mahmood taking 5 wickets brought the lowest total of 36 runs to be chased by St. Catharines.

Niagara Cricket Club batsmen Tan Qureshi and Varna Peiris managed to complete the required runs in the 8th over and remained not out at the crease. Niagara Cricket Club won the semi finals by 7 wickets to ear the spot in the championship game. Last time when Niagara Crickets qualifies and won the H&D League championship was in 2006 when they beat Mississauga Ramblers.

Niagara Cricket Club will play Crescent this weekend at Ridley for the League Championship Trophy.
